Mechanical seals are also called end face seals. They have a pair of end faces perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Under the action of fluid pressure and compensation for mechanical external elasticity, the end faces rely on the cooperation of the seal to maintain fit with the other end and slide relative to each other to prevent fluid leakage. .

Mechanical seal leakage failure is one of the most common failures in water pumps. Therefore, the water pump mechanical seal is also one of the more critical wearing parts of the water pump components. When selecting a water pump, the mechanical seal material must be suitable for the liquid transported by the user. Medium, usually water pumps are shipped from the factory with fluorine rubber mechanical seals. Some manufacturers use nitrile rubber mechanical seals. If the corrosion is serious, a mechanical seal made of PTFE material should be used.
Solution:
1. The first possibility of water leakage from the mechanical seal is the wear of the dynamic and static ring planes of the mechanical seal. There are six reasons for the plane wear of the dynamic and static rings of the mechanical seal:
2. Installation is too tight. Observe the plane of the dynamic and static rings of the mechanical seal. If there is severe scorching, blackening and deep marks on the plane, the sealing rubber becomes hard and loses its elasticity. This phenomenon is caused by too tight installation. Solution: Adjust the installation height. After the impeller is installed, use a screwdriver to pull out the spring. The spring has strong tension and will reset after being loosened. A moving distance of 2-4MM is enough.
3. The installation is too loose. Observe the plane of the dynamic and static ring of the machine seal. There is a very thin layer of scale on the surface, which can be wiped off. There is basically no wear on the surface. This is caused by the loss of elasticity of the spring and poor assembly, or caused by the axial movement of the motor.
4. The water quality is poor and contains particles. Due to poor water quality, small particles and high hydrochloride content in the medium, abrasive wear occurs on the plane of the mechanical seal or the surface is strained to produce grooves, ring grooves and other phenomena. Solution: Improve the water pressure or medium, and replace the mechanical seal.
5. Dry grinding damage caused by water shortage operation. This phenomenon is mostly seen in the negative pressure at the inlet of the bottom valve type installation. There is air in the water inlet pipe and air in the pump chamber. After the pump is started, the friction of the mechanical seal generates high temperature when running at high speed and cannot be cooled. Check the mechanical seal and see that the spring tension is normal. , the friction surface is burnt and blackened, and the rubber becomes hard and cracked. Solution: Exhaust the air in the pipeline and pump chamber, and replace the mechanical seal.
6. Cavitation. Cavitation mainly occurs in hot water pumps. Since the medium is hot water, the water temperature is too high to generate steam. The gas in the pipe enters the high part of the pump cavity. This part of the gas cannot be removed, resulting in water shortage operation, dry grinding failure of the machine seal, and automatic discharge of the cavitation device. Air valve, replace the mechanical seal.
